May 24, 2018The Panamanian government is trying to increase production and export of pineapples, water melon, and melons with an incentive program.

The fruit tree incentive program supports agricultural transformation through the purchase of good certified genetics seedlings, irrigation and drainage systems; and the acquisition of equipment to achieve the transformation in the farm, said Didio Batista, director of the Administrative Unit for Agricultural Transformation of the Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA).
The producer will be reimbursed 75% of the investment in the purchase of certified fruit plants and 50% to those who make investments in the installation of irrigation and drainage systems in their farms.
They also apply to the program the purchase of equipment such as drones, agrometeorology systems, pest monitoring, among others.
The producer will be reimbursed up to $ 100,000 of the investment, the official explained.
The program has a list of certified nurseries where producers can buy the seedlings.
